Google has announced a strategic evolution of its security products, transitioning how customers access VirusTotal services to a new, unified platform. This change is designed to consolidate the company's extensive security data into a single, cohesive solution, providing enhanced capabilities to all users.

Introducing the Google Threat Intelligence (GTI) Package

The core of this transition is the launch of the Google Threat Intelligence (GTI) Package. This new offering consolidates three of Google’s premier security assets: VirusTotal Threat Intelligence, Mandiant Threat Intelligence, and Google Threat Insights. This unification provides customers with a single, powerful source of threat intelligence, enabling more accurate threat detection and a more robust incident response plan.

The GTI Package offers various tiers to suit different needs, with services previously available to VirusTotal Basic and Professional users now accessible within the GTI Standard, Enterprise, or Enterprise+ packages.

A Broader Vision for Security

This strategic initiative aligns with Google’s long-term vision to provide a fully integrated security ecosystem. The company is also rolling out a new security product, Google SecOps, which brings together SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) and SOAR (Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response) capabilities. The SecOps platform is fully integrated with Gemini, Google’s AI, and the GTI package in its Enterprise+ tier, offering a unified command center for security operations.

For organizations currently utilizing disparate SIEM tools, Google’s integrated SecOps and GTI solutions present an opportunity to streamline security operations and enhance their defenses with AI-powered insights, all within a single, cost-effective platform.

Key Dates for Transition

The following dates were established to facilitate a smooth transition for all customers utilizing VirusTotal services:

  • New Purchases: The window for new purchases of VirusTotal products under the previous system has closed. New purchases are now directed to the Google Threat Intelligence (GTI) Package.
  • Renewals: The last day to renew existing VirusTotal services is December 31, 2025.

All renewals made during this period were for a one-year term only.

Conclusion and Next Steps

This transition represents a significant upgrade, moving customers from a single tool to a comprehensive, next-generation threat intelligence platform. The integration of VirusTotal’s data into the new GTI Package, along with the broader SecOps platform, delivers a level of insight and automation previously unavailable. This strategic shift provides customers with a unified and more powerful set of tools to proactively combat the evolving threat landscape.
