Two Steps To Fix Google 2FA Settings Login Error


When you attempt to log into your account, the system prompts: “Your sign-in settings do not meet your organization’s two-step verification policy.”, so you are tucked on the step of 2FA. What should I do? Check out this blog to get you out of trouble!

Understanding The Issue

This issue usually occurs when your account’s current sign-in method doesn’t comply with the enhanced security policies set by your organization, specifically regarding Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) or Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Before diving into the solution, it’s essential to understand that this error message is triggered by security policies enforced by your organization to protect sensitive data and systems. 2FA or MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring two or more verification factors, which significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access.

Below, we provide a step-by-step guide to resolve this issue and ensure your account meets your organization’s security requirements.

Step-By-Step To Fix The 2FA Login Error

Report to your company’s administrator, and ask the administrator to log into the Google Workspace management console to check the settings for 2FA verification.

Reason: Although 2FA verification is enforced to apply across the organization, no registration period for 2FA verification was set for new users. Therefore, new users are prompted that their login does not comply with the organization’s 2FA verification policy during their first login attempt. 

Action: At this point, the administrator needs to set a registration period for new users, and we recommend setting it to 1 or 2 weeks.

After your company’s administrator has set the registration period for new users, they can remind all new users to register for 2FA verification when logging in. New users can successfully log in for the first time and will be prompted to register for 2FA verification, as shown below:

What If I Forgot To Register 2FA During The Registration Period?

If you are a new user who has not registered for an account within the registration period, you will still be unable to log in after the registration period has passed. You can contact your company’s administrator to generate a backup verification code for you individually.

1. The administrator finds your account in the management console, clicks on 2FA verification, and obtains a backup verification code.

2. Copying any one of the backup codes or the administrator can copy all to save it securely.

3. When you log in again, the system will prompt you to enter an 8-digit backup verification code, which is the code sent to you by the administrator

4. After you successfully log into your account, the system will prompt you again to register for 2FA verification, and you can now directly click to register.

Important note

  • Once a user logs in using a particular backup verification code, that code will become invalid.
  • If all the codes have been used, you can generate a new set of 10 backup verification codes at any time when needed. 
  • When a new set of backup verification codes is created, the previous ones automatically become invalid.
